Vienna University of Technology

The Institute for Powertrains and Automotive Technology of the Vienna University of Technology consists of approximately 60 employees with 25 of them belonging to the scientific staff. About one third of the scientific staff deals with modelling issues. The institute possesses 16 engine test benches and the necessary equipment to measure fuel efficiency and emissions. Furthermore, state-of-the-art numerical tools are available that allow the modelling of the combustion and the emissions. The institute has a long-standing experience with the research on the efficiency of engines and powertrains and regards this topic as a core competence. Numerous projects were carried out during the last years that dealt with an efficient mixture preparation and combustion process. The spectrum of engine sizes ranges from engines for passenger cars to large gas engines. Scientific papers were published at prestigious conferences and in peer reviewed journals in order to share the results with the scientific community.
